Stories in Wood and Olive
Nestled among the ancient olive trees of Andalusia sits an unexpected sight: a 20-foot shipping container that I've transformed into my woodworking sanctuary. TinyTaller—a playful blend of English and Spanish—captures the essence of this project. While 'taller' means workshop in Spanish, 'tiny' pays homage to the tiny house movement, embracing the idea that creativity thrives within thoughtful constraints.
Like the tiny house philosophy of living simply and efficiently, my workshop proves that you don't need vast spaces to create beautiful things. In just 160 square feet, surrounded by the trees that have shaped this landscape for generations, I'm learning to work with the woods that define Andalusia. From the graceful, swirling grain of olive wood to the delicate patterns of local almond, each piece tells a story of this sun-drenched corner of Spain.
TinyTaller isn't just about crafting with wood—it's about crafting a complete workshop experience within a minimal footprint. Join me as I navigate the challenges of organizing a compact space, building essential jigs, and selecting the right tools for a small-scale workshop. I'll share my successes, mistakes, and discoveries as I build both projects and the workshop itself.
Whether you're working in a cramped urban apartment or planning your first workshop, this blog is for anyone who believes in the power of constraints and the beauty of working close to nature. Together, we'll explore how limited space can spark creativity, how local materials inspire unique projects, and how our connection to the surrounding environment shapes our craft. Because sometimes the most inspiring workshops aren't found in vast buildings or spacious garages, but in small spaces nestled among trees.
